Many join Y's Men International with a mind to serve their own fellow men in distress and difficulty. They get attracted to our Projects taken - up all over the world from TOF-Global Project Fund. This is primarily because through these projects they discover the true spirit of Y's Men International. That apart, the contributions to Time of Fast Fund by Y's Men and others are never mobilized with a commercial approach and in stead, it is a voluntary act with a human touch. The contributors and donors realize the pain of hunger that people suffer.

In the month of February every year the Y's Men and their families through out the world get involved with a rejuvenated spirit promoting this International Fund in all the areas, where Y's Men International is now spread. They become examples to others skipping their own meals and contributing its cost to T.O.F. Fund, thus being tools to improve the lives of so many others who are in distress. That is why Mahatma Gandhi once said, "Service to Man is Service to God."

Since inception of T.O.F. program by Y's Men International in 1973, a great deal of money in as much as US $ 4.5 million could be spent from this noble fund for people's welfare. Out of T.O.F. Global Project Fund as many as 27 on going projects are supported in 16 countries.

Y's Men International could help the YMCAs to undertake many projects in the cause of service to global community. Both the organizations- Y's Men and YMCA stood together for people's cause in many parts of the world. This sort of bond between the two organizations developed a profound faith in people and a spirit of helping each other for a peaceful co-existence. Y's Men International is now privileged to earn a consultative status with the United Nations and renders unique service through two flagship projects like HIV/AIDS and RBM (Roll Back malaria). From Time of Fast, Y's Men International provides funds to these projects globally.

World is full of uncertainty. The famous philosopher Bernard Shaw once said, "There is nothing certain in this world, if you are certain you are certainly wrong." With the growing ecological imbalances, diseases and disasters, poverty and distress, world is no more a peaceful place to live in. It is nice to realize that in the ocean of wants and miseries "Y's Men International" stands as a beacon to improve the lives of many through Time of Fast fund.

At the same time my dear friends, we must try to understand that our inflow to this TOF fund is not enough when compared to the out flow, the money what we spend for projects. There is urgency for us to fill in this gap. We have to sustain our on going projects and improve upon for the future. It is only possible when Y's Men's clubs and the Y's families contribute in a ritualistic way to this fund, the pride of Y's Men. February is the month when our Y's Men and families are rejuvenated to work at various ways to get contributions to T.O.F.

It is the time to fast and on top of that to act fast for "Time of Fast".

I am reminded of a noble saying, "Love God with joy and gladness, lets' put our love for God in to a living action, for God always appears before us in a disguise of a sick or poor."

Dear friends ,

In order to help our brothers and sisters in japan who are the victims of the devastating earthquake and tsunami, India area has instituted an Earthquake Relief Fund by opening an account with the union bank of India Panampilly Nagar Cochin-682036 by an initial contribution of rupees 50000 /-donated by the India area president from his area funds. Another Rs.5000/- is also donated by him personally.

In this hour of tragedy, I earnestly request every Y's men family of India Area to donate a minimum of $100 /- or its equivalent in Indian rupees which will be a great help to the survivors of the holocaust. Let us also pray and commend our brothers and sisters in Japan to the care and grace of God.

HOW THEY SPARKLED.

Enthusiastic Y's Lings and Youth flocked to Pandalam on 21st August , a day when the weather was the most pleasant . They came with a purpose . The much longed for 'Sparkle' , SWIR Zone IV Youth Camp was scheduled to begin shortly .It was an opportunity to attend a life transforming Youth Camp at the NCPT Conference Hall.

The camp itself was the fruit of weeks of meticulous planning . Ym.Dr.TG Varghese , the LRD had wanted a memorable and fruitful youth camp. Dr.Jaicy Philip was given the task of designing the modules .He gave an assurance that nothing would stand in the way of delivering a quality programme.

The registration started precisely at 9 AM. Ym.Er.Narayana Swami had arrived on time for the inaugural function .It was a conscious decision to keep the formal programmes short and sweet and to do away with any lengthy speech so that the maximum time can be dedicated for the attendees. The inaugural function had the LRD on chair . Ym. Thykkoottathil Zakeer (President of the YMC Pandalam) welcomed the august gathering . Ym.Er.Narayana Swami lighted the lamp and inaugurated the function.The chief trainer was introduced.

The Core Session of the programme ' The Six Steps to Your Success Zone' by Dr.Jaicy Philip captivated the audience .The attendees were spellbound and attentive as she led them hypnotically through the six steps . The entire session was experiential and activity oriented . The attendees imbibed the lessons of motivation with ease .The conference hall echoed with outbursts of laughter ,energy and enthusiasm .

Many of the attendees could prove themselves .They could now do some of the things they feared .They had been motivated .They won several prizes. They learned several new lessons . For many , it was a first time opportunity to attend a youth camp .All of them wanted to 'sparkle like diamonds'.

The youth enjoyed the elaborate lunch and they longed to return to the conference hall for the remaining sessions.

Adv.Philip Thengumcheril made a brief presentation on the Regional Project .The attendees were enlightened about the amount of damage being inflicted by us human beings on the Earth and how the survival of humanity was being threatened .The concepts of global warming and its aftermath were explained .The attendees swore that they would be part of the efforts by Y's Men International to contain global warming by reducing the use of paper , using recycled paper and most importantly by planting trees. Another brief session on Ethicality was conducted by Ym.Jose Samuel with interesting narratives. This was based on the conviction that our youth need be made aware of our movement's motto.

The Valedictory function followed .Certificates for all attendees , prizes , Awards for the best male and female campers : Brenton Philip and Dhanya V Mathew ,Citations and Mementos were distributed . This was followed by a photo session.

The DGs of Districts X and XII had taken great personal efforts to bring the lings and youth to the Camp and they deserve all praises for their leadership and participation. The enthusiastic teens had made several new friends and they said that they wished they could spend more time .It was a sad moment for many of them to part.

The organizers were contented that they could conduct a camp which was a runaway success with great participation.

Free Medical Camp for Mentally challenged children

YMC Pathanamthitta Central is sworn to social service . It has been associated with the Peace Valley School for the Mentally Retarded at Mallassery for several years . A free medical camp was organized for the mentally challenged children and their family members on 31st December 2008 at the Town Hall , Pathanamthitta . An awareness programme was conducted .Free lunch and New Year cakes were provided for the participants.

The District Collector inaugurated the function . The District Panchayat President attended the function . YMC was represented by Ym.KK Cheriyanjee , the Club President and Ymt.Dr.Jaicy Philip (psychologist).

Oct 26th 2008 .It was an amazing day with so many celebrations rolled into one . Since it was the Y's Menette's day , the entire programme was conducted under the leadership of the Y's menettes .

The Y's Menettes' President Ymt.Mercy Jacob was on the chair .The secretary Ymt.Sara Jacob welcomed the gathering .The devotional message was given by Ymt.Dr.Milie Chemmanam.

Ymt.Glen Bijoy (DSD-Menette's activities ) of the Elanthoor Club was the chief guest .She gave a moving message . Ymt. Dr.Jaicy Philip was the master of ceremony. The President of the YMC also addressed the gathering . He inaugurated the Roll Back Malaria Project .The UN day was observed .

The business session was followed by a wonferful array of cultural programmes , dance , songs and skits . It was an evening full of fun , joy and interaction.

Y's Men Club of Hyderabad (chartered in 1958) , the first club in Central India Region and Y's Mens Club of Pathanamthitta Central (chartered 1992) , one of the premier clubs in SWIR have entered into a brother club relationship . Both the clubs wish to learn from each other and foster brotherhood and fellowship .

Ym.Vijaya Kumar (ICM) of the YMC- Hyderabad has been instrumental in establishing the Brother Club relationship .

YMC PATHANAMTHITTA CENTRAL CELEBRATES ONAM.

YMC Pathanamthitta Central celebrated Onam '08 on a grand scale on 11th September at the Royal Auditorium , Pathanamthitta .

The District Collector Sri. Sanal Kumar IAS inaugurated the function . Various competitions were conducted for the Y's men , menettes and lings .

The families came to meeting dressed in the traditional attire . The athapookkalam , numerous cultural and entertainment programmes including the traditional dances such as Thiruvathira , Vallappattu , skits , dances and Onam songs brightened up the evening. This was followed by an elaborate Onam feast.

Roll Back Malaria Campaign

Y’s Men International is launching a worldwide campaign to fund the purchase and distribution of INSECTICIDE- TREATED MOSQUITO NETS and accompanying medical treatment packages in areas of tropical AFRICA.

YMI OBJECTIVE: Collect contributions to purchase and distribute 20,000 packages containing: a) Routine immunizations; b) Vitamin A (or multiple micronutrient) supplementation; c) Insecticide-treated nets (and insecticide re-treatment kits); d) Anti-malaria “blister packs” for managing fever at home.
